Come and try it
If you have never paddled before then the best thing to do is initially come to our club night and see what we get upto. If you like what you see you can book a boat via Wendy Sargent, who will inform you when there will be one available for you to paddle.
During the summer months the club meets at Draycote Water on a Monday evening and we run a new paddler induction session on the first Monday of every month. Potential members are encouraged to come along to this as this allows us to provide the coaching you need as new member, gives you a peer group of other beginners to progress with and makes it easier for us to manage things. Please note that you will not be able to paddle before this.
In summer we also offer a short junior session at Draycote on Tuesday night that is aimed at the younger paddlers. This is less structured and more oriented towards play, so new members can usual fit in any week. 8 years of age is our offical minimum age and club coaches reserve the right to decide as to who may paddle for all visitors and members. Places for the junior sessions need to be booked in advance (even if you have your own equipment). A maximum of 12 spaces are available each week, but this is reviewed regularly depending on the number of coaches that are available. Please book a place using the same contacts and telephones numbers as the normal Monday club night.
During the winter months the club meets at the Rugby School Pool on a Friday evening. The nature of a pool session means that its much smaller and easier to manage so new potential members are welcome to come along any Friday. Numbers are limited for boats in the pool you may not get to paddle in your first week, but it does give you a chance to come and observe the club and see how we run things. While you are they you can talk to coaches and existing members who will help you book a boat and arrange your first session.
When you arrive for your paddling our BCU trained coaches will explain the basics to you, sort you out with all the required equipment and get you on the water. As a club we encourage you to come along and try it for three sessions, then if you decide you are enjoying it we request that you join the club and we discuss membership with you.
If you have a question that you have not had answered by our web site, please contact Alan Deas by e mail, go to the Contact page and then click on Club Chairman or click Coaching for Chris Fawcett.
