Where
Summer
To get to Draycote Water: Follow signs for Banbury from Rugby on The Southam Road (A426). You go past the entrance to the Draycote Water Reservoir, on the right just before Kites Hardwick. Turn right, go through the gate, then right at the little building on the left, then up the slope to the top, where the Car Park is on the right. To get to the Sailing club, you will need to take the left hand roadway round the top of the boat park, and then down towards the water edge.
To get to slalom training leave Rugby heading towards the M1 on Hillmorton Rd (A428). The site is situated at the Old Royal Oak pub as the road goes over the canal. Slalom gates are normally hung during summer with sprint and distance training during the winter months.
Under 12s; Will require a parent or responsible adult to be with you and stay whilst you are on the water. Under 18s; Will also be asked to complete a Consent form, and hand it to the duty person.
Winter
The club meets at the Rugby School swimming baths on a Monday evening. The Rugby School pool is in Horton Crescent , Rugby .
The pool, although large, does not enable the club to provide the same style of structured coaching, as happens at Draycote, for those wishing to develop their skills in the BCU 1 2 3 star awards. However, it does enable members who wish to learn/improve a particular stroke or skill to practice under the guidance of one of the club coaches, normally on a one-to-one basis which does not normally occur at Draycote. Paddlers requiring any help or suggestions of what to do please make themselves known to the Pool Duty person, who will ask a club coach to offer assistance.
Please ensure that when booking a boat YOU ask for the session you want and note that this is subject to boat availability. We only have the use of 10 boats per session. Before or after your canoeing session you may swim if you wish. A lane of the pool is sectioned off for those who want to swim.
Please say that you are swimming only when you pay, if this is
the case.To help Pool sessions to run smoothly please observe the
following: NO OWN BOATS ALLOWED unless by prior arrangement and with
agreement by the Committee.
Own paddles may be used but only after being checked for sharp edges by
the Duty Person. Paddles with metal tips must not be used.
No Jumping in whilst swimming.
Boat Booking
To book a boat for the Monday Evening Canoeing Session in Summer (Draycote Water) or Winter (Rugby School Pool) please contact Wendy Sargent on 07505 748730. She will confirm when a boat will be available for hire.
Please note; When the demand is high, you may have to wait a couple of weeks before a boat is available for hire.
IMPORTANT; If you book a boat for the pool or Draycote and later cancel the booking you will be asked to pay for it unless it can be re-let to someone else. The earlier you advise the club of cancellation, the easier it is to re- let to another member. This policy is necessary to cover the costs of the pool and to allow the maximum availability of club boats.
